to me waking the cadaver is one of the most promising newer bands to emerge recently and they are from new jersey just like dripping, digested flesh, and mortal decay so that already tells you what you can expect. both their previous bands were a hardcore band named death to honor and a solo death matal band of the drummer named funerary but i guess they were more death metal than hardcore cause once you hear this demo you'll understand that they have so much potential when it comes to creating sick and slamming guttural death metal. the music is mostly a lot of slams and grooves one after the other but there very distinct and very very catchy. the vocals are mostly gutturals but some times you'll hear the occasional high tone squeals and hardcore styled vocals so there's definitely some variety here. the drums are tight when it comes to double bass and blasts and the guitar riffs are ranged from slow to mid paced to fast paced riffs along with the breakdowns and slams i mentioned are so generously peppered about the music. they recently signed with macabre mementos records and the waking the cadaver debut cd will surely be one of their more sicker releases coming out so don't miss it! till then enjoy this ultra slamming demo and spread it to all your friends or any other supporters of this style of music. Woundeep - Weapons of mass protection

It feels as if it was so many years since
I heard anything from this band, I used to
mail with one of the guys in the band, but
for some reason he stopped replying so I
pretty much thought that they were dead.
But then I got in touch with a friend of
theirs and I heard that Woundeep still was
around and they got signed to Unmatched
Brutality (congrats to that!), but that
they also had a new promo out entitled
"Weapons of mass protection". A week
later I received the new promo and
by the first look of it I sensed that
something had happened, and damn.. was I
right about that. First of all the print and the coverart is very professional for being self-released. Then I saw that there had been a line-up change, namely the drummer Akihiro had left and I'm not sure if they got a new bassplayer or not since this "new" bassplayer is called 41 for some reason so hm.. I got no idea about that one. Like the previous demo, this one starts straight off being very fast and really brutal, but you can notice that they are even faster and actually even more technical than. The drummer does an awesome job and he's probably one of the fastest and most precise drummers I've ever heard. You can also sense that Woundeep has caught something called "originality" as well since they got a certain vibe or should I say personality so that you can tell them apart from many other new bands. For a while I thought that they had a new vocalist as well, but after checking I'm convinced that its the old guy and he has gotten way better, delivering deeper and more powerfull vocals now, even some squels here and there and he does this really pissed off scream somewhere in the middle of the second song "The invetiable is here" that really makes my skin shrivel. I havent read the lyrics yet, but I gotta say that I really like what they are going for, if the lyrics are as good as the titles and concepts, then I bet that the lyrics rule as well. Recorded by Keisuke Okada from Disconformity this guy must be a big name when it comes to studioengineers in Japan because this guy really knows how to get the work done. Really clean, yet really brutal production, but without the too mechanical vibe. So if you're japanese band then you gotta get in touch with this guy because he'll boost your music to new levels! This is getting better and better and you get a re-recorded version of "Color of betrayal" from their previous demo as well, but here it sounds way better, even faster if I'm not mistaken. This is probably the best band out of Japan nowadays, so check these guys out and give em all the support they deserve! /Ulf |

"Ah shit, its over already?", I thought to myself as this two track
demo
stopped spinning
in my player. Its really a pity when you really have gotten into it,
that it
ends just like
that. Anyway, this is a very competent newcomer to the scene of brutal
music, playing pretty
blast-oriented death/grind/groove that makes me think of bands like
Brodequin, Disgorge (US),
and Vomit Remnants (mainly because that the former vocalist from V.M
does
vocals in Woundeep).
Musically, these guys are well-talented so I bet that they arent that
new to
music itself
after all, its all tight and flows on without any flaws. Maybe that the
vocalist could have diversed
his vocals a bit more, but this dosent mean that I dislike it, no no
no,
thats where you
are wrong. Toshiyasus vocals has really evolved since the days when he
used
to sing in
Vomit Remnants and I personally I think he is one of the better
vocalists
out there. A smart move of Woundeep to write about something else than gore, its refreshing with diversity these days and these lyrics are really smart and they speak for themselves, about social questions, every day reality, war etc, to put it in short terms, its about the world that you and I are living in these dark days. Very good english too actually, couldnt have written it myself in such a good way that these guys have, everything moves on softly and they are pretty easy to understand. The soundquality is pretty clear, clear enough to hear all the instruments, even the bass can be heard if you listen a bit more carefully. The drumproduction sounds a bit like Brodequin, but with a bit more punch to the kickdrums. Totally rough and by far some of the better demoproductions I have heard this year. This is definantly a competent band that can become something big one day, so keep your eyes and ears open for these guys. /Ulf |
